He will set off on the Yatra after offering prayers at the Gali Anjaneyaswami temple on Bangalore-Mysore road at 9.30 am. He will also visit the Gavigangadeshwaraswamy temple early in the morning.
During his 20-day tour, he is scheduled to cover nearly 25 districts (except Bellary, Raichur, Bidar and Gulbarga) travelling mainly by road.
A special bus has been designed for this purpose, Janata Dal (Secular) State President Merajuddin Patel said.
From Bangalore he will travel towards Mysore and will pass through Ramanagar and Mandya districts.
The former chief minister will address his first rally at Ootgalli in the Chamundeshwari assembly constituency, Mysore, which his bete noire Siddaramaiah has been representing.
Poll campaign
Patel said the Yatra will mark the beginning of the party’s aggressive poll campaign.
“The polls are most likely to be held in May. So we do not want to waste time. While Kumaraswamy tours the State, Janata Dal(S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda will finalise the plan for second leg of the campaign,” he added.
Kumaraswamy’s yatra assumes significance as he is considered as the mascot of the JD(S). The party, after suffering set backs with several leaders quitting, is mainly banking on his 20-month’s performance as the CM to seek votes.
Why has Kumaraswamy chosen Mysore to start?
“Mysore is the place where the JD(S) has suffered most in terms of its former MLAs quitting the party. Of eight former MLAs, six are no longer with the party. So, the party wants to regain its hold in one of the important Vokkaliga belts,” party sources explained.
In the second leg of his campaign, which is likely to begin in the second week of April, he may address rallies in all important assembly constituencies across the State.
Sources said that for this leg of the campaign, the former CM may travel by helicopter.
