JD(S) candidates have emerged with flying colours, defeating Congress in the elections for 27 wards in Shidlaghatta town municipality.

While 18 candidates from JD(S) have emerged winners, from Congress nine candidates have won the poll.
Police have to lathicharge to disperse the people assembled in the Government PU college grounds during the counting.

When the supporters of the winning candidates raised slogans and burst crackers, the police tried to control them. When a constable lathicharged one of them the people started pelting stones. In the riot, a constable sustained injuries on head and the police jeep was damaged. Despite 144 section in effect, the celebrations knew no boundary. The police who were only a few in number failed to control the supporters.

Recounting
The JD(S) candidate M V Venkataswamy who was defeated by 16 votes by a Congress candidate, applied for the recounting.

Though the election officers said that recounting after half an hour was not permissible, the candidate did not withdraw.

He went on to threaten to commit suicide in the centre if the recounting was not done.
However when JD(S) president M Rajanna consoled him stating that they could take legal recourse in case of discripancies in the counting, the candidate withdrew his protest.  Police intervened to send the candidate out of the centre.
