Politics and power has been glamourised by the society, which is why corruption has become all pervasive. Instead, if ideals of Mahatma Gandhi were given more importance, we could have seen a cleaner society, opined Bharat Seva Dal Working President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
Speaking at the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations organised by Bharat Seva Dal district committee at Town Hall on Tuesday, he said statements that Lord Ram never existed will lead to further arguments that Christ and Allah never existed. Hence, we should understand Gandhiji’s preachings and his equal faith in Ram and Rahim, because they are part of our society. The present day confusions can be solved if ideologies of our national heroes is understood, he explained. This region has given followers of Gandhiji like Karnad Sadashiv Rao, Kudmul Ranga Rao and Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya. It is our duty to remember them on the occasion, he said.
Commenting on the ‘Prabhat Pheri’ organised by Bharat Sevadal from Jyothi junction to the Town Hall, he said this is the only jatha which even today follows the Indian tradition, devoid of glamourisation and resembles the jathas organised during the freedom struggle, he added.
Students from various schools in DK district participated in the fancy dress competition, patriotic song and patriotic dance competitions organised on the occasion.
In the ‘Prabhat Pheri,’ wherein over 1,500 students of various schools participated, children chanted bhajans and sang patriotic songs. Children dressed as national leaders were an attraction in the procession which proceeded in total discipline.
Later Gandhiji’s bust in front of the Town Hall was garlanded. Freedom fighters, Deputy Commissioner and Karnataka Bank Chairman Ananthkrishna among others were present on the occasion.
