District Judicial Services Authority, Udupi district and Udupi Bar Association in association with Badagubettu Credit Co-operative Society organised a workshop on ‘Women and Co-operative principles’ here on Saturday.
The workshop was inaugurated by High Court Judge and Administrative Judge of Udupi District H V G Ramesh. Addressing the gathering Justice Ramesh called upon the citizens, especially women, to be united in their protest against the injustices that is prevailing in the society.
No justice can be achieved by a single hand. Many pairs of hands should be joined together in the process, he said citing Gandhiji’s example of Co-operative movement.
He praised Co-operative Societies of the District and informed that this system of co-operative societies and banks originated in Dakshina Kannada district.
Justice Ramesh urged government to ban alcohol completely in the State and to introduce measures which provide basic necessities, education and social security like old age pensions in large numbers so that many people can be its beneficiaries.
He also said that the people who are in high positions in the society should share certain responsibilities towards maintaining a healthy and corruption free society.
Fast Track Court Judge B Shivalinge Gowda presided over the function. Civil Judge and Member of District judicial Services Authority A M Ramachandrayya, President of Apex Bank in Bangalore and Dakshina Kannada Centre Co-operative Bank M N Rajendra Kumar, President of Udupi Bar Association Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Veteran Advocate S Vittal Shettigar and President of Badagubettu Credit co-operative Society Sanjeev Kanchan were among the present.
