Department of Forest Kundapur division, Maravanthe Village Forest Committee in association with Field Services and Inter Cultural Learning (FSL) India organised a ‘Sand Sculpture’ competition as a part of its ongoing Public Awareness Campaign on turtle conservation initiative at Malpe Beach in Udupi on Tuesday.
Artists created sand sculptures on themes such as ‘Turtle incarnation’, ‘Life cycle of a sea turtle’ and ‘Relationship between human beings and turtle’. Sand Heart, Udupi, bagged the first prize for its sculpture on life cycle of sea turtle. The winners were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Bangalore, I B Srivastav, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, Karnataka Cashew Development Board Mangalore Director R M N Sahay, Deputy Conservator of Forest Kundapur Division, R K Srivastav were present.
