Tumkur University Vice Chancellor Dr O Anantharamaiah has urged the government to immediately release the money for the all round development of the University. The memorandum was submitted during Mr Kumaraswamy's visit to the City.
The government has fulfiled the expectations of the people of this region by sanctioning the land for the university, he said. The land for the University has been sanctioned in Bidirakatte on Tumkur-Kunigal road.
Mr Anantaramaiah said Tumkur University is unique from other universities as it is the youngest in the state and buildings depicting different cultures need to be built in the new campus. But, the University is in a backward region where students are from rural and poor agrigarian families and are charged only minimal fees. As result, the amount with the university is not sufficient to carry out the development works, he added.
Demanding 105 crores for the construction of the new University building, VC said that is just enough to provide the primary basic amenities. He said that the dilapidated condition of old building academic programmes were held in Government Junior College.
A memorandum had earlier been submitted to Higher Education minister D H Shankaramurty by VC when he visited the city. The Minister assured him of the appropriate action in this regard and had even inspected the campus land.
