Various associations and organisations celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with pomp and gaiety in Kolar on Tuesday.
At Gandhivan Deputy Commissioner G Ramachandra, CMC commissioner M Ramachandra offered floral tribute to the Mahatma while District Superintendent of Police K Yallappa, Assistant Commissioner M S Archana, tahasildar Shivalingaiah were present. A prayer meet was also organised on the occasion.
Students of Chinmaya Mission recited Bhagavad Gita while Syed Saheb recited Quran and Meshak read Bible. Students from various other schools also took part.
Bharata Seva Dala had also organised a prayer meet during which Manjunath taught patriotic songs to children. Convener Mahesh was present.
District Commandant B Mariswamy presided over the function organised in connection with birth anniversary of Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastry, by District Home Guards.
Lecturers at Methodist College Vijayakumar and Balasubrahmanyam delivered lecture.

Various religious leaders including John, Ashsith Musheer, Ravi, Ramakrishnappa, Ashwathappa, Papanna, Srinath Gunashekhar, Murali participated.
At Sonnehalli government higher primary school 138th birth anniversary of Gandhiji was celebrated. Teacher J N Chandrappa speaking on the occasion called upon the students to imbibe values that Gandhiji represented. Various cultural programmes and ‘shramadana’ were organised. Rakesh, Kavyashree and Usha won prizes in the essay writing contest. Head Master Suresh Babu presided over. The students staged a dance drama, based on Gandhiji’s life story, directed by teacher T V Shashikalavati.
