The Mathma was an ardent follower of ahimsa or non violence throughout his life and set an example for the rest of the world to emulate. However his own country men seem to forgotten the the great soul’s teachings. On his 138 birth anniversary it was indeed disheartening to seem a few meat stalls go through business as usual.
Even the non-veg restaurants also did not down their shutters . Old Canara Bank road, Santhe market, Darga Mahal and other areas where the mutton stalls kept their doors open for the customers.
However some of these stalls also conducted business through closed doors keeping in mind the occasion. The helpers directed the customers through the back door.
The United Nations has declared Gandhi Jayanthi as the International non violence day . Gandhiji has immense faith in non violence and our freedom is a standing testimony to the power of this faith. It is a crying shame that even on his birthday we do not refrain from animal slaughter despite standing orders from the Government.
The City municipal Council has sent out letters to the meat stalls beforehand to let them know about it. The residents of the city have expressed their displeasure about this blatant disrespect to the Father of the Nation.
