Japan Elected To Security Council
New York, Oct 2
Japan was elected to the Security Council for one of the three seats falling vacant this year.
The eighty-two nation General Assembly voted in secret ballot for successors to Australia, Cuba and the Philippines in the 11-member Security Council. Japan was declared by 53 votes and later Canada and Panama were also declared elected.
Immediately afterwards, Japan Pledged to contribute her utmost to “the maintenance of international piece and justice”.
Magistrate Summons Bankmen
Calcutta, Oct 2
Mr S M Sanyal, Presidency Magistrate today issued summons against about 100 employees of eight different banks in the city under the Industrial Disputes Act on charges of continuing the bank strike which has been declared illegal by the Union Government.
The employees have been asked to appear before the Magistrate on October 13. About 10000 bank employees throughout the state are on strike since September 28 demanding 25 per cent hike in their salary.

Gowda Resigns On Moral Grounds

Mr H D Deve Gowda, Janata party MLA has resigned his Assembly membership on “moral grounds” in view of the Doddahalli police firing in which two persons were killed and sent the letter to Chief Minister Gundu Rao.
The resignation also demanded the dismissal of Co-operation Minister H C Srikantaiah whom Mr Gowda held responsible for the police firing.
