Intel, on Wednesday, announced India Design House programme catering to needs of domestic market.
The key objective of design houses is to develop embedded platforms based on embedded Intel architecture.
Until now these design houses were solely manufacturing platforms. However, they now they will start playing more active role in specifying designs and in creating platforms for local consumption.

Briefing reporters, Intel General Manager (Embedded Markets Division) Joe Jensen, said “We are looking to create reference designs suitable to Indian environment. This will enable OEMs to easily assemble modular Point of Sale (POS) terminal using standard building blocks for retail market.”
Intel will add value by providing support and technical expertise. Companies that enroll in the programme also get access to Intel roadmaps, product samples, training and seminars. “We are looking to create platforms based on embedded Intel architecture in India, one of our fastest growing regions.”
Besides retail industry, Intel will look at other segments like information kiosks, wireless communications infrastructure, infotainment devices, ATMs, military, government, aerospace, gaming, industrial control and medical equipments. “Our focus in on retail sector as it is maturing fast,” he added.
Intel embedded products and technology include processors based on Intel core microarchitecture, Intel network processors, Intel flash memory and Intel I/O processors.
