Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy laid the foundation stone of the Traffic Transit Management Centre (TTMCs) of Bangalore Mahanagara Transport Corporation (BMTC) at Vijayanagar on Wednesday.

The TTMC is coming up with an investment of Rs 40 crores. The BMTC plans to bring up 45 such TTMCs across Bangalore “to demonstrate the best possible practices in sustainable transport facility.” The TTMC at Vijayanagar, taken up under the Central Government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will be a seven-floor structure wherein the bus depot will be positioned at the basement level and the ground floor will have bus station and passenger amenities.

The next three floors will be earmarked for public parking with a capacity to accommodate 500 four wheelers to encourage the park and ride facilities for personalised mode users.

The upper floors would be utilised for other public utilities such as Bangalore One, ATMs, Medicare establishments and shopping malls.

Transport Minister Cheluvarayaswamy requested the Chief Minister to sanction a grant of Rs 3,000 crore to have some more TTMCs.

He added that the BMTC plans to have hi-tech buses in the city as is seen in European countries and for this purpose the Corporation aims at buying around 200 Volvo or other hi-tech buses.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kumaraswamy said, his government was committed for the overall development of the State as well as to increase the quality of the transport facilities in the entire State.
