Army recruitment drive
Bangalore, dhns:
Day one of the Army Recruitment Rally at Manekshaw Parade Grounds saw 500 candidates from nine districts of the State attending on Wednesday. The recruitment was for the post of Soldier Clerk/Store Keeper Technical and Technical. Two hundred candidates were found eligible to undergo screening and 67 qualified. The Headquarters Recruiting Zone, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadweep and Mahe conducted the rally for candidates from Bangalore Urban and Rural, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapura, Mysore, Kolar, Tumkur, Mandya and Chamrajnagar districts. On Thursday, recruitment for the posts of Soldier General Duties-matric and non-matric entry, Friday for Soldier Tradesmen, on Saturday for sports persons, NCC certificate holder, wards of ex-servicemen, war widows, widows will be held.

Shortlisted for awards
Names of personalities shortlisted for Essel Karnataka’s best media awards have been announced. Five media persons have been selected for the awards in five different category. They are Mr Basavaraj Swamy (contributions to district journalism), Mr Madan Mohan (exemplary contribution), Dr R Poornima (exemplary contribution), Mr N S Ponnappa (cartoonist) and S Seethalakshmi (promising journalist). The jury headed by Justice U L Bhat, retired chief justice of Guwahati High Court, short-listed these names for the award. One among these will be selected through televoting.

Train services extended
Railways has decided to continue to run weekly special train services between Guwahati-Yeshvanthpur-Guwahati (train numbers 0202/0201) for a further period of four months upto January 31, 2008 with same nominated days, route, composition and stoppages except that it will bypass Cuttack and has no stoppage. These specials period ended by September 29 from Guwahati and from Yeshwanthpur on October 1. Train number 0202 Guwahati-Yeshwanthpur weekly special will depart from Guwahati at 6.30 am on Saturdays commencing its first extended service on October 6th and arrive at Yeshwanthpur at 12.10 the second day. The last special train service from Guwahati is on January 26, 2008 with a total of 17 specials. Enroute the weekly special arrives/departs Krishnarajapuram at 12.40/12.45 am, Jolarpet at 4/4.5 am and Howrah at 1.55/2.15 am.

KERC clarifies
Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission Secretary has clarified that no member of the KERC has levelled any charge against the government. Reacting to a report appearing in Deccan Herald on October 3, the secretary said that “KERC has cast no aspersions against anybody”.
