There have been instances of fake policemen and fake traffic policemen being caught by police often trying to extort money from the public. But now the real policemen are ought to lose their face because of what the residents of Udane in Uppinangady have done. They have placed a plastic model of a traffic police to ease out the traffic movement and to avert mishaps along the National Highway that is in a bad shape.

The roads have disappeared along the National Highway leaving behind huge potholes. During the past 15 days, several vehicles have been damaged and many people have been injured severely due to these potholes.

Though the situation has reached an alarming stage, the authorities have not felt the need to repair the roads. Sensing that the authorities will not take up any action to set things right, the local residents of Udane voluntarily installed a plastic traffic policeman here to handle the situation. The action serves two purposes, it helps in managing the traffic and also stands as the symbol of citizens contempt against the inefficient authorities.

This much talked about policeman functions as per the wishes of any of the nearby petty shop keeper. The model is placed at dangerous point where the road is completely damaged. The hands of the policeman are tied to one end of a thin twain and the other end of the same twain is given to any shopkeeper nearby. When the density of the traffic flow raises, the shopkeeper smartly pulls the twain giving out a signal of danger.

Spotting the policemen, the drivers of the vehicles slow down, become alert and drive carefully and pass the dangerous patch of road.

While the plastic policeman has become a cynosure attracting many visitors to see him, the only people who have not come to see the plastic policeman are the real policemen.
