Local residents of Padubidri protested aganist the establishment of Suzlon company which would take up production of spare parts for wind power generation, on Wednesday by stopping the ground levelling work taken up by the company to put up rehabilitation colony.
Karnatka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had provided 11.63 acres of land near Abbedi in Padubidri Gram Panchayat limits to Suzlon Company Limited, on which the company proposed to set up rehabilitation colony for the 32 families that will be displaced.
The levelling project was handed over to Sai Developers Udupi and accordingly the levelling and deforestation works had commence about 3 days ago.
The local residents alleged that the works were being taken up without seeking permission from the local Gram Panchayat and Forest Department and said that company has failed to take local residents into confidence.
Addressing the reporters, Company officials Alim and Ashok Shetty said that the land was handed over to the company by KIADB and the company is ready to take the permission of the local panchayat if required.
Padubidri Gram Panchayat members were present on the occasion.
