A colourful and fashionable event

The Fashion and Apparel Design Department (BSc students) of Baldwin Women’s Methodist College organised Rang De 2007—a fashion extravaganza. The show exhibited the creative inputs of young graduating designers of III year BSc, along with an exciting inter-collegiate competition.
The fashion show comprised work of probable talents in the fashion industry. The sequences were titled, ‘Subocqueo’ by Andrea, ‘Soy espaldo’ by Farheen Jabeen, ‘Bosque’ by Swarna Kote, ‘Serrandella’ by Tanzeela, ‘Hue Swing’ by Shilpa, ‘Rotsen’ by Umme Salma, ‘Ocaso’ by Asra Fatima, ‘Pulseria’ by Meghna, ‘Insects’ by Noor Fatima, ‘Ricamo’ by Deepti Kapadia and ‘Diadem by Neeta Jain.
An internal jury initiated the evaluating process handing over the responsibility to the external jury which comprised of Leela Mohan, senior lecturer at VHD Central Institute of Home Science, Richa Dubey Tripathi, accessory designer and Reshmi, fashion design faculty, NIFT, Bangalore.
Mount Carmel College emerged as the winners in the inter collegiate competition with the collection titled ‘Traditionally Yours’. The other teams came from KLE College, Garden City College, T John College, Acharya Institute of Fashion Technology, Army Institute of Fashion and Design, VHD Central Institute of Home Science and VET First Grade College.
The jury members included Prasad Bidapa, Dr Ninge Gowda, the director of Fashion and Apparel Design Department, Bangalore University and Vidhya Sagar, a fashion designer.

Seminar on sustainable eco initiatives
Acharya Institute of Management & Sciences, inaugurated the international seminar on “Sustainable Eco Initiatives in Tourism & Hospitality” in association with ITC The Windsor, Bengaluru, on September 17 at the college auditorium.
The conference was supported by Ramanashree Group of Hotels, St Mark’s Hotel, The Nandini chain of hotels and restaurants, Pragathi catering services, The Harbour Market, Ilvero, The Absolute Foods.
Secretary, Department of Tourism, Kannada Culture and Information I M Vittal Murthy, who was the chief guest, said tourism and hospitality industry are growing at a rate faster than expected and are reaching double digit growth figures.
Emphasising the theme of the conference, he said citizens should take care of heritage destinations and eco destinations.
He also stressed the need for public-private partnership to manage and to maintain these national assets and resources.
He also encouraged the role played by educational institutions to train and to attract more professionals in order to keep pace with the rapidly expanding hospitality and tourism industry.
General Manager, ITC The Windsor, Bengaluru,Anand Rao was the guest of honour. Dr Russel Arthur Smith, the vice-dean of Nanyang Institute of Hospitality and Management, Singapore, gave the keynote address covering issues like global warming, green hospitality and environment hospitality. Prof Kiran Reddy, CEO, AIMS, gave the presidential address.
Moot Court competition
CMR Law School is organising and conducting a national Moot Court competition from October 5 - 7.
The national event will be inaugurated on October 5 by Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court, Justice Cyriac Joseph.
The finals on October 7 will be judged by five sitting judges of the Karnataka High Court. Cash prize worth Rs 50,000 will be awarded to the finalists.
Former judge, Supreme Court and former Lokayukta Justice M Venkatachala, will be the chief guest at the valedictory function and the five sitting judges of the High Court will be the guests of honour. Dr Sabitha Ramamurthy, president of CMR Janardhara Trust will preside over the function, states a release.
Moot courts are an academic exercise devised to test the ability of students of law as professionals. The event demands a fine tuning of speaking skills, research skills, and mostly of drafting abilities, incumbent to advocates.
Encouraging the students to inculcate an interest in research on emerging areas of law, exhibiting the best ethical compliance demanded by the profession, providing a platform of experienced legal professional to facilitate an analytical interaction etc. are some of the objectives of the competition.
