JD(S) lets BJP take over
Chances are remote, if one goes by the tune of H D Deve Gowda and his CM-son H D Kumaraswamy. Gowda, for one, doesn’t want another dent to his national image by allowing BJP to head its first government in the South. Goes without saying that he wants his son to continue as CM.
Another JD(S)-Congress coalition
Efforts are on. The CM has dropped hints to this effect, though Gowda is quick in denial. There are also reports doing the rounds, saying that the Congress may extend outside support. Names of big players, including Sonia Gandhi, M Karunanidhi and Sharad Pawar, are being dropped. While Sonia is reportedly not keen on the truck, the State Congress is also resisting it.
BJP gives in, HDK continues at helm
It will be a terrible loss of face for the BJP. The party can keep its arch-rival — the Congress — at bay by extending outside support to the JD(S), but again, that will be the final straw for the national party.
Gowda sticks to his guns, Cong mum
Gowda Sr may point out BJP’s flaws over the coalition’s first 20 months. However, if JD(S) fails to muster the Congress’ support, he might ask his son to step down. That means President’s Rule and, in turn, fresh elections.
HDK seeks vote of confidence
The CM may call a special Assembly session to seek a vote of confidence. Technically, the BJP ministers’ resignation can’t hold him back from calling the session. He’ll need the support of either the BJP or the Congress to pull it off. If neither of the parties give in, it will be curtains for Chief Minister Kumaraswamy.
