No rods in Rajasthan schools
DH News Service, Jaipur:

The Rajasthan government has prohibited all forms of physical punishment in all government and private schools in the state.

The state education department has issued directives to all the schools in this regard. The directive issued by the department also makes it mandatory for authorities  to maintain a complaint box in the school and hold parent-teacher meetings once every month.

State Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari said at a function organised by UNICEF at the state capital on Thursday that the government wished to provide an environment in which the children would be free of fear in school.

Directives have also been issued to create awareness amongst students regarding various forms of physical and mental torture. This is to enable them to complain when subjected to any type of physical  torture. The schools will have to provide a forum to students, to provide  them an opportunity to convey their problems to the administration through the complaint box. The head of the institution is supposed to check the complaints.
