The dance n' drama unfolds
Meera Seshadri
'Nach Baliye 3' is here! It's time to witness the bickering, expostulations, good-humoured raillery, moments of frisson, moments of despondency and moments of exultation of its contestants.

Nach Baliye- the popular reality dance show is back this year, in its third edition, proffering yet again unmitigated exhilarating entertainment to dance aficionados. The show is telecast on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m, on Star Plus. The show is hosted by none other than previous year’s winner-jodi Tina and Hussain, who effortlessly trounced their fellow contestants with knockout performances last year. (Remember the way they pirouetted and gyrated around the dance floor, with many sui generis dance moves, especially in which they danced blindfolded!)

On the panel of judges, we have veteran film director David Dhawan, actor Ishaa Koppikar, and the famed yet finicky choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. Not to forget a mélange of interesting personalities that we see among the participants this year.

While many of these competing “real-life” jodis are the popular small screen stars, there are few who’ve had stints on silver screen too. Some are even spotted in ad films.

Like any other reality show, replete with dramatic elements, even in this show, one can find surfeit of it to keep viewers’ interest riveted. And why not? When we have live-wire Rakhi Sawant (with an uncanny proclivity to ever get embroiled in torrid controversies) as one of the contestants! Maybe the viewers get to see her true dancing prowess here, after being overfed by her raunchy item numbers.

To infuse more drama, and to get TRPs zoom higher exponentially, there’s firebrand Kashmera, Rakhi’s on-screen arch rival, as another contestant! (Remember the way they often went ballistic at each other on sets of Big Boss over trifling issues last year!)

And there is daring Pooja Bedi as another contender, whose dance performance was a complete washout in the first round itself in last year’s Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, (yet another dance show, aired on Sony TV).

Not to forget the celebrated actor Shakti Kapoor as another contestant, who has donned negative and comic roles in umpteen films. The first episode saw him receive a standing ovation from studio audience for his electrifying performance which slickly camouflaged his wife’s tyro dance moves. Indeed his impeccable footwork belied his wizened countenance!

In the same episode, Kashmera’s performance titillated the lachrymal glands of the judges, who applauded her (with misty eyes!) for her poignant dance moves.

To perk up the ambience further, there is a ‘phoren’ contestant too, who was extravagantly showered with encomiums for his dazzling performance, sublime body language and perfect lip-sync. So, with all these dramatis personae in this spectacular dance-drama show, apparently, one can behold the whole gamut of real-life emotions. Especially with the participants pitted against each other, you can constantly witness their bickering, expostulations, good-humoured raillery, their moments of frisson (while awaiting the judges’ scores), moments of despondency (after eliciting trenchant digs), moments of exultations (after bagging top-notch scores), all these interspersed with guffawing and blubbering sessions!

Rest assured, the celebrity couples are all set to slug it out, and to scorch the dance stage with their sizzling n’ scintillating dance presentations. So, as they swirl n’ twirl to the lilting tracks, thudding at the backstage, wowing the dance fanatics with ‘aakhir hum bhi kisise kum nahin' stance, all we can do is to sprawl on our sofa, to vicariously experience the tears n’ triumphs of these dancing-duos. After all, it’s nothing short of an aural n’ visual extravaganza!
