'Gandhian ideals still relevant'
DH News Service, Kolar:
The ideals of Mahatma Gandhi are almost forgotten today and people have forgotten the hardships which great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and others took to free the country from British Rule, opined MLA K Srinivas Gowda.

Presiding over the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations week organised jointly by Nehru Youth  Centre, Baharat Ratna Educational Institution of Majenahalli, Women’s Awareness Platform on Sunday, he said that it is a great honour that World Health Organisation has accepted to celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi as Non-Violence Day.

Untouchability
He also expressed his concern over the prevalence of Untouchability even to this day in villages which makes humans forget their humanity and called on the youth to eradicate such inhuman practices in the country.
Though the government has launched several programmes to increase the standard of living of the Below Poverty level families, it is sad that there are still many such families, he added.

No one today seem to understand what Power Decentralisation means and instead they are all involved in Corruption decentralisation and called on the youth to fight against such system in the country.

Expressing shame over the Horse lobbies which took place during Kolar CMC election, he asked the youth to fight against such injustices in the society.

The MLA also stressed on the need to educate girls and the quality of education which has to be improved. He also recalled the contribution of many educationists from Kolar such as G Narayan of Srinivaspur and others.

District Youth Co-ordinating Officer of Nehru Youth Centre Devasahayam delivered the key-note address.
Mamatha Reddy of Women’s Awareness Platform said that opportunities should be given to women as that of Men. Sub Division Officer M S Archana inaugurated the function and spoke.
