Free psychiatric camp held
DH News Service, Tumkur

:There were many programmes that were  conducted here to celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi. But this initiative stood out among the rest.

Sneha psychiatric centre had organised a free psychiatric counselling camp taking forward Bapu’s ideal that a healthy mind and body could combat any stress and  strain that life would throw at us. Mahatma firmly believed the mind and the body had to work in tandem and had to be in top shape for us to deal with life and all its problems.  Taking forward this  belief, Sneha psychiatric centre had organised this free camp. The visitors were given free psychiatric help.

In the constantly changing parameters of modern society is  man has to combat a new problem everyday. In this  age of competition, it is not  just bodily ailments that is troubling man.

He  being  equally bogged down by the psychological problems that seem to have become and inevitable part of development and modern lifestyle.

However the rural people who are not aware that psychological problems have definite solutions like their bodily counterparts, normally neglect it. Another reason for this neglect is that psychiatric treatment is expensive.

Meaningful celebration
Therefore Sneha psychiatric centre had organised this  free camp for the benefits to reach all those who needed it but could not  afford it.

Intas pharmaceuticals which also was part of the camp supplied the free medicines.

The head of the centre and eminent psychiatrist Dr Lokesh Babu attended to more than  120 patients and  offered guidance to them. Dinesh Kumar and Sathosh who represented Intas pharmaceuticals distributed the medicines to the patients.

B V Chetan, Srinivas, Manas, Lakshmi and other psychologists also  took part in the camp.

Dr Parameshwar who spoke at the simple ceremony said that the family and  economical problems combined with drug addiction were the main reasons for the increasing mental problems in the society.

He also added that the family love and support help in a large way to combat these problems.
