Narcotics substances, mobile phones, chargers, lighters, knives, iron rods, cash and other banned items were recovered from inside the jails in Uttar Pradesh, during a statewide raids conducted by the authorities.
The raids were conducted in more than 60 jails across the state following a directive of the state government to check irregularities in prisons and activities of the inmates, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brijlal said.
While in Barabanki jail, 300 gram morphine and 50 gm smack were recovered from a prisoner and in Mirzapur prison, ganja was recovered from some inmates along with mobile phone recharge coupons, knives and mobile chargers, officials said. In Mainpur, cash worth Rs 11,500 were recovered from a prisoner and in Bhadohi, five persons were found in the barrack, where former MLA Uday Bhan Singh has been lodged.
The raids were conducted throughout the day by the concerned District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Brijlal added.
