Security forces gunned down two militants of the proscribed ULFA at a remote village in western Assam on Sunday. The incident took place just hours after the soldiers of the Rajputana Rifles found the bodies of the two men who were kidnapped by another rebel outfit in North Cachar Hills district.
The Inspector General of Police (Special Branch) Khagen Sharma said the security-personnel raided a remote village at Udalguri in western Assam acting on a tip-off. A gang of ULFA militants had taken shelter at the village.
The militants opened fire on the securitymen as soon as they entered the village. The security personnel retaliated and the gun-battle went on for almost half-an-hour.
Arms found
Two of the militants were killed, while the rest fled the scene. Some arms and ammunition were found near the corpses of the slain rebels, Sharma added.
Meanwhile, the militants of another underground organisation have shot dead two men it had kidnapped a few days ago. The security forces found the corpses of the hostages in a remote village at Jinam Valley in the North Cachar Hills district early on Sunday.
