Salary of daily wage labourers
'Commissioner, project director misused money'
DH News Service, Madikeri:
The incident of misappropriation of money meant for the salary of regularised daily wagers of the City Municipal Council has taken a new tun on Monday with Rajya Paura Seva Nowkarara Sangha Vice-President Ramachandra alleging that the Municipal Commissioner and the Project Director of Urban Development Cell have misapprorpriated 40 per cent of the money in the form of commission.

He addressed media persons after conducting a meeting with the daily wagers at Kaveri Kalakshetra in Madikeri.  “The government had released Rs 25 lakh additional amount as the arrears to the 31 regularised workers. The Municipal Commissioner who deposited the amount in the bank on October 1, got Rs 1.5 lakh commission in return,” he alleged. “The project director has also deceived by receiving Rs 4.5 lakh commission. However, as the incident was busted, he repaid Rs 1 lakh to the employees which have been distributed equally,” he said. Mr Ramachandra said the project director has been transferred to another district, and the remaining amount is yet to be recovered. He said he would complaint to the government to take stringent action against the two officials for deceiving the workers.

Commissioner clarifies
City Municipal Council Commissioner D H Raya has clarified that the allegations made by Mr Ramachandra is totally unreal. Behind this, there is a plot of making innocents victims by diverting the issue, he noted.
Speaking to reporters at his office, he said he had not received any commission from the workers.
“I could not take any action as there was no official order regarding the regularisation of the daily wagers,” he justified.
I have written to the bank manager to give details regarding the withdrawal of money by using cheques with the thumb impressions of the workers, and on the basis of his report, actions will be taken, Mr Raya added.
