Judicial enquiry into Ammadlu encounter begins
DH News Service, Koppa:
A judicial enquiry to look into the Menasinahadya encounter that took place recently in Koppa taluk, in which two naxals and three followers were killed, igniting fierce opposition by the local residents was started on Monday.

The enquiry was started by Revenue sub divisional officer Reju. He said that his enquiry revolves around the question whether there was a need for the police to open fire and how many police were deployed for this action?

Koppa Police Inspector Anil Kumar answering Reju said that four teams were formed to hold a search operation for the naxals and they were deployed in Menasinahadya, Thalavane and Mundagaru. The team headed by himself and additional Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar’s headed towards Ramegowdlu’s house near Odeyarmutt at 7.30 am.

As the team members Raghava, Nagabhushan and Dhanpal entered Ramegowdlu’s house, the naxals opened fire at them, severely injuring Raghava on his ears, neck and back.

M G Hospital Chikmagalur doctors Suresh and Radhakrishna had conducted the postmortem tests. They said that there were 18 bullet marks on Sundaresh’s body and 12 such marks on Kaveramma’s body.

Sundareshan’s brother had given a written statement alleging that it was wrong on the part of the police to fire entire house on the suspicion that there are naxals in the house. Due to this immature move of the Police Sundareshan and other innocents lost their lives.

Chaudeshwari Yuvajana Okkuta Kittaiah said that Parameshwara never possessed pistol. “Apart from pen, paper and mobile he never carried anything else in this bag. He used to hold seminars and discussions to chalk out new plans so that the people in the region are provided with the basic needs. Apart from Gautham all those who have been killed were innocent,” he added.

Ananda from Nemmar, brother of deceased Kaveramma said that about two weeks ago five naxals had visited the house of his sister Kamalakshi.

“Naxals had even visted their house a year ago, but they refused to give any support to them. We got to know about the details of the incident only through Akashwani and then we rushed to the spot the next day,” Anand said.

ANF personnel Raghava explaining about the incident said that he fired about 30 bullets from his AK-47 when he was falling on the ground after being injured at the ears, back and neck due to the naxal attack.

Kudremukh Udyanavana Virodhi Okkota Kalkuli VIttal Hegde, Gram Panchayat member Devendra and others will be enquired on Tuesday.
