The members of the Pranthya Raitha Sangha and Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a protest demanding to take suitable action against the sellers of low quality seed potatoes in front of the APMC market on Monday.
Some traders are making use of the situation to their advantage by selling low quality seed potatoes for a very expensive price, as there is more demand since this is the right season to sow seed potatoes, they added.
They expressed their ire over such traders saying that this has been going on since many years and no higher authority has taken suitable action against such traders despite many warning and protests by the farmers, they complained.
At the same time, they demanded to give compensation to the farmers who have lost their crops due to sowing of low quality seeds and demanded the Agricultural Department to fix the price of seed potatoes and also ensure that good quality seeds are provided to the farmers. They also warned that if the illegal selling of such seeds continues, then the farmers themselves would take the situation to their control and take suitable action against the traders, instead of complaining to the higher authorities, they warned. They also demanded that the officials to keep an eye on such traders.
S Lakshmaiah of Pranthya Raitha Sangha, district co-ordinator of Farmer’s Association P N Shrinivas Naidu, leaders Rajappa, Muniraju, C R Babu, Gangaraju, Anandappa and others were present.
