The lynching syndrome that reflects the growing intolerance within the society reared its ugly head again on Sunday evening when a mob in Jharkhand’s Gumla district hacked to death an allegedly extortionist.

The victim has been identified as Suresh Kumar Pakra of village Birma under Bagichal police station. Police said Suresh along with his two cronies after making frequent phone calls demanded Rs 50,000 from a telephone operator after which angry villagers thrashed Suresh as the other two managed to escape.
