IT major Moser Baer, which has revolutionised the home video segment by taking the lead in introducing low-cost VCDs and DVDs, has further expanded its movie portfolio. It has acquired 900 titles from one of India’s largest home video labels, Ultra Video.
The company announced that it had acquired 800 Hindi and 100 Gujarat titles from Ultra Video. “This adds 2,500 Hindi and 400 Gujarati titles to Moser Baer’s repertoire,” Harish Dayani, the company’s chief executive (entertainment business), said.
He added that the company was also close to acquiring copyright/exclusive licence for more than 9,000 titles in all major Indian languages. This would comprise a third of all movies produced till date in India.
Among the titles acquired from Ultra Video are Sholay, Koi Mil Gaya, Bombay To Goa, Sagar, Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Aradhana, Amar Prem, Andaz Apna Apna, Iqbal and Dillagi.
The company will release these titles in VCD and DVD formats in the home video market at attractive price points. “This has been made possible by its proprietary and patented technology, which enhances quality and significantly reduces cost,” according to Mr Dayani.
The company has already lined up over 475 distributors across the country. Stocks will be soon be available in around 100,000 outlets.
“This acquisition enables us to offer some latest hit titles to consumers at affordable prices points between Rs 28-Rs 39 for VCD/DVD. I believe that at these price points, consumers will finally have a wider choice to own Bollywood,” he said.
