The police investigating into the foetuses found lying near a garbage dump at Jakkarayanakere last month have submitted a report to the State Pollution Control Board saying they are suspected to be from Bangalore Assisted Conception Centre in Seshadripuram.
The report was submitted 10 days ago. Sources in the police department told Deccan Herald all the seven foetuses are suspected to be from Bangalore Assisted Conception Centre.
“Along with foetuses, we also found some patient records belonging to the centre,” said a senior police officer.
Srirampuram police have sent the report to the pollution board.
“We received the report from them sometime back and our regional office staff visited conception centre and issued a show-cause notice this week seeking an explanation within a week,” said Mr K M Lingaraju, environment officer, pollution board. He said the centre has replied to the notice.
“The further course of action will be initiated by the Board, including calling the hospital authorities for personal hearing,” he said.
“There was some renovation work going on in the nursing home and while clearing debris, the workers may have thrown the bio-medical waste (BMW) comprising old foetus kept in formalin, syringes and some empty IV bottles etc,” said the police officer.
“We questioned the conception centre staff who said they have been giving their BMW to Sembramky - a common treatment facility for BMW, at Dobbespet, sanctioned by government, for the last three years,” Mr Lingaraju said.
