One of our deepest senses is our sense of smell. A smell has a very powerful effect on our innermost senses – be it food or fragrances. Smell can trigger an emotion. A fragrance is an emotional choice, it’s personal. A fragrance is created through a prism of varied nuances. A fragrance is powerful in character and has the strength to conjure a collage of memories A fragrance can take you on a journey, it can retrieve a memory – happy or dark. Different fragrances are associated with different personalities, persons or situations.
A fragrance can make you reminisce of a significant person or event. A light summery fragrance could for example remind you of a colleague you worked with in another city. Fragrances carry an intrinsic value to revive memories, it could be the ingredients in a fragrance, a vanilla or cinnamon fragrance which can remind one of the goods times when your home kitchen was filled with warm smell of the cookies your mother was baking.
“The scent of a fragrance stimulates your senses and can revive a specific point of time,” says Reetiks Kotecha of Parcos at Leela Galleria "Very true , a fragrance is an evocative memory. Often the charms of a fragrance are as much its memory as its notes. For example often we find younger people asking for older classic fragrances, because it reminds them of what their parents used, or it is an association with a happy memory or time," adds Prathista Panchal, Brand Manager Givenchy. Thus, a perfume’s top, middle or base notes can conjure a particular memory. There are fragrances that evoke a happy or dark significant emotion.
Flower Iris
This can pertain to something or someone or someplace you are closely associated with in your personal or professional stream. Strong fragrances are associated with places in the Middle East whereas a fragrance derived from the flower Iris which is mainly found in Europe is found to be masculine in nature with a large female fan following in terms of male recollection. So the next time, your wear a whiff of a fragrance, remember it can take you back into folds of time.
Choosing fragrances Everyone has a personal "scent circle": approximately an arm's length from the body. No one should be aware of your fragrance unless he or she steps inside your "circle." Fragrance should be one of the most subtle, personal messages you send to those with whom you come in contact.
For a long-lasting effect, fragrance should be layered all over the body, starting with toilet water or eau de parfum, next in strength to perfume, to build the fragrance foundation. Because fragrance rises, spray or smooth fragrance onto skin from the feet to the shoulders. If fragrance is applied only behind the ears, it will eventually rise and disappear.
As a final highlight, perfume, the most concentrated and long-lasting form of fragrance, should be applied at the pulse points where the heartbeat is apparent (wrists, behind ears, crook of elbow, base of throat, bosom, behind knees, inside the ankles).
The wearer's diet can affect the way a fragrance smells and lasts on the skin. If the wearer is on a high fat, spicy diet, for example, fragrances will be more intense.
A dramatic change in diet can alter skin chemistry, causing fragrances to smell differently. Skin type will also affect the way a fragrance smells on a person.
Fragrance wearers with oilier skin should remember that fragrances interact with the oils in their skin to create a more intense scent. Dry skin does not retain fragrance as long as oily skin, requiring the wearer to reapply the fragrance more often.
Keep your fragrances safe from extreme cold or heat. Once a bottle of perfume is opened it should be used. Otherwise it will begin to fade or change its character with time. Long exposure to strong sunlight or extremes in temperature can disturb the delicate balance of the perfume and change its scent.
Perfume, to last, should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct light, preferably in its beautiful box. Just as books must be read and records played, fragrances must be worn to be enjoyed!
