Traffic offenders beware! You are being watched by cops who can impose a fine on you the moment you violate traffic rules, and can issue a challan to you on the spot.
All this because the City traffic cops are now geared with Blackberry palmtop computers and wireless printers, through which they can issue spot fine. The case of repeat offenders is going to be worse because these computers have data of habitual offenders and the number of cases registered against them.
The moment an offender is caught, his name, vehicle registration number and licence number will be registered by the traffic police. If the person is a habitual offender, the computer will display his antecedents the moment his details are fed in it.
The Blackberry palmtops were first given to traffic cops in the City in June this year as part of the B-TRAC 2010 project, on an experimental basis in select pockets in the City. The traffic police have now decided to cover more areas in Bangalore in a month’s time.
“In June this year around 10 Blackberry handsets were given to traffic police personnel in the Cubbon Park traffic limits, to book traffic violations on the spot. Now we are planning to give handsets to more traffic personnel,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) K C Ramamurthy told Deccan Herald.
The palmtops are connected to the server at the traffic management centre located at the additional traffic commissioner’s office. Around 280 Blackberry phones on Airtel’s network will be used by the traffic police.
