All the security measures have been taken for the smooth conduct of urban local body elections in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Uttara Kannada districts, said ADGP (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari.
Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said Dakshina Kannada district has 567 polling booths of which 146 have been declared as hyper sensitive booth, 235 as sensitive booths and 186 as general booth.
Uttara Kannada district has a total of 258 polling booths. Of which 84 are hypersensitive, 116 are sensitive and 58 are general. Udupi district has a total of 149 polling booths.
Six polling booths have been declared as hypersensitive, 73 are sensitive, and 70 are general.
While Chikmagalur has a total of 231 polling booths. Of which 121 are hypersensitive, 102 are sensitive and 9 are general.
Mr Bidari said in Dakshina Kannada district there will be 58 police mobile squads, 31 in Uttara Kannada, 18 in Udupi and 40 in Chikmagalur. As many as 13 platoons of DAR, 8 platoons of KSRP and 355 Home guards will be deployed in Dakshina Kannada. In Udupi district 6 platoons of DAR, 4 platoons of KSRP and 100 Homeguards will be deployed.
In Chikmagalur district, as many as 8 platoons of DAR, 3 platoons of KSRP and 107 Home Guards will be deployed.
Threat calls
To a query on increasing threat calls to the businessmen in Dakshina Kannada district, he said “nobody should be worried of such threat calls. They should register a complaint with the nearest police station giving complete details.”
He said the team which arrested persons involved in Chemmanur jewellery theft will be honoured soon.
‘NAXALS CAN SURRENDER’
ADGP Shankar Bidari said if the Naxals wants to come to main streams of the society, they can surrender. They need not surrender to a particular police station. They can surrender before the court as well, he added.
