Flood-hit areas surveyed
Hubli, DHNS:
Union Minister of State for Home Radhika Selvi on Sunday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas, including Gadag, Dharwad and Bagalkot -the worst-hit districts - in north Karnakata, to assess the extent of damage caused by rains.

Speaking to reporters here later, Ms Selvi said the three districts had bore the brunt of rain havoc. She put the loss due to rain havoc at Rs 363 crore.

She said while Dharwad district suffered losses to the tune of Rs 124 crore, losses in Bagalkot and Gadag districts were Rs 80 crore and Rs 159 crore, respectively.

She said she would submit a report in connection with the flood damage to Union Minister Shivaraj Patil soon.
“There is no dearth of material to provide relief to the flood-affected people. But the agencies concerned are not able to reach the affected people as roads in the region have suffered severe damage. Steps have been taken to erect make-shift tents and provide food and water to the flood-affected people in all the three districts,” Divisional Commissioner Amitha Prasad, who accompanied Ms Selvi, said.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders Dharam Singh, Mallikarjun Kharge and H K Patil submitted a memorandum to Ms Selvi in Bangalore, urging him to render all possible help to the State.
