District level workshop on domestic violence held
DH News Service, Kolar:
The district Superintendent of Police Dayanand opined that domestic problems need to be solved immediately.

The district Superintendent of Police Dayanand opined that people should be made aware of their responsibilities too along with their rights.

This will help develop social concern and thereby helping the society in controlling crimes, he added.

He was speaking at the district-level workshop on ‘Domestic Violence Act,’ jointly organised by District Legal Services Authority, district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Welfare Department and Central Union of Advocates, at the Chennaiah Rangamandira on Sunday.

Mr Dayanand felt that domestic problems need to be solved immediately. He expressed his unhappiness over the increasing number of cases of atrocities against women in particular. The government has passed the Act specially keeping this in mind, he added.

District fourth fast track court judge B V Prakash suggested that cases of atrocities against women should be solved locally as far as possible.

“If women are treated well as per the oath taken at the time of marriage there will not be any problem,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner G Ramachandra, in his address, said that the Centre had a legislation to deal with domestic violence for years, the State government has brought in a much improved and stricter Act now.

Senior advocate M V Subba Reddy and advocate Mohammed Khan Pathan spoke on the role of judges in the implementation of Domestic Violence Act. Advocates Mallikarjun Kinikeri, Laxminarayana, Singh Changdev, P N Krishnareddy, K R Dhanaraj, Taluk Panchayat CEO Ramakrishnappa, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department K N Bhaskar and others were present.
