Bangalore, DHNS:
"We were receiving complaints about the continuous flow of pirated audio and video CDs in the City. So, we launched a drive and seized 60,000 pirated CDs and DVDs from 85 people," Police Commissioner N Achyutha Rao told reporters here.

Pirated CDs and DVDs worth Rs 1.14 crore were seized in a massive drive across the City to check audio and video piracy. As many as 85 people were arrested in this connection.

“We were receiving complaints about the continuous flow of pirated audio and video CDs in the City. So, we launched a drive and seized 60,000 pirated CDs and DVDs from 85 people,” Police Commissioner N Achyutha Rao told reporters here.

Recently, representatives of Super Cassette Industries had complained pirated CDs and DVDs was hampering their business.

Fake CDs and DVDs worth Rs 35 lakh were seized from R Steven Raj, Babusab, Babu, Manju and Nagaraju.

Fifty of these were porn CDs, said the police, adding the other CDs were copies of the latest movies. Most of these CDs came from Chennai, they said.

Gang nabbed

The CCB sleuths nabbed a gang of five and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 13 lakh from them.

According to the police, Riaz of Bapuji Nagar, Shabbir of Haleguddadahalli and Syed Bashir of Hegde Nagar, all in their mid-20s, were arrested.

The finger-prints of Bashir in one of the burgled houses helped police trace the gang. The gang was wanted in connection with ten cases of burglary in seven police stations.

The seized valuables include gold and silver ornaments, watches and video cameras. Some gold-coated brass biscuits - which the gang used for cheating jewellers - were also recovered .
