Kalam to be given Basava Puraskara

Basava Puraskara will be presented to former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in a function to be organised in front of Vidhana Soudha on Friday.


Tourism Department Secretary I M Vittalamurthy said here on Wednesday that Basava Puraskara will be presented to former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in a function to be organised in front of Vidhana Soudha on Friday. The award carries Rs 10 lakh in cash, he said.

MoU

Karnataka Tourism Department on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Switzerland based Luxury Train Travels and Mapples Group of Hotels of Bangalore for commissioning Golden Chariot, super luxury train to tourist attractions of Karnataka.

Mr Vittalamurthy said that the two companies will take care of  hospitality and ticket booking for the train. The train will start its first trip in the first week of November.

Non-violence Day

The state government will observe Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday (October 2) as International Peace Day in Bangalore. Mr Vittalamurthy said the general assembly of United Nations Organisation has declared Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday as international non-violence day.
