Liquor, money flowing in local body polls
DH News Service, Tumkur:
In a joint operation by the election officials and the police in the early hours of Thursday thousands of rupees worth liquor has been confiscated.

On the eve of the local body polls, some accusations are being heard in the light of the city municipal council polls regarding malpractices. However, no definite complaints have been registered.

In a joint operation by the election officials and the police in the early hours of Thursday thousands of rupees worth liquor has been confiscated. Three have been taken into custody and subjected to questioning. Later in the day the joint operation continued and it would go on even in the night.

As the election commission has not fixed the target for election expenses for the local body polls, there are complaints that candidates in Tumkur and other parts are on a spending spree. There are talks that after the canvassing ended on Wednesday night, the candidates have tried to entice the poor voters with many goodies.

All in all during the canvassing period it was quite a common sight to see the candidates luring the voters with sarees, liquor, money along with festival food and other items.

Many of the candidates without viewing this as a moral fight have instead viewed it as a personal one and they are going all out to win at any cost. This was a common scene not only in Tumkur but all over the district.

With the elections on Friday, many candidates have  sleepless nights on Wednesday and Thursday.  and they were calculating how to woo the voters to the booth and how they could attract them to vote for their party.
