Fathima Sumaya Khan
Evening bazaars come alive during Ramzan. The foot path outside Jumma Masjid in K R Market has vendors dishing out delicious kebabs and samosas along with cut fruits and dates for rozdars (one who fasts). Come Ramzan and Bangalore dawns a festive look. All the streets are abuzz with activity after 6 pm. Muslim children accompanied by elders enthusiastically visit mosques during iftaar time (breaking the day long fast) and take part in taraween (evening prayers) during this month symbolising unity and faith.

Evening bazaars come alive during Ramzan. The foot path outside Jumma Masjid in K R Market has vendors dishing out delicious kebabs and samosas along with cut fruits and dates for rozdars (one who fasts). ‘Thandai’ (beverage made out of milk, sugar, ice and rose water) along with ‘dahi malai’ (sweet) is also popular among people.

Namaz ki topi priced between Rs 10 to Rs 300 in different varieties and colours is on display here. Topis with delicately sown thread work are in huge demand.

Traditional perfume (attar) available between Rs 5 to 150 is also being purchased in large quantities by both men and women.

Traditional items
Along with this surma available in small bottles is a must buy for men who apply it in their eyes before offering namaz.

Traditional attire for men like kurtas and Pathan dress is also on sale at throw way prices between Rs 300 to Rs 350 per set. Imported tasbis (bead strands used to chant prayers) from Japan available at Rs 90 are bought as gifts.

Small bazaars with similar items are found outside mosques across the city. Eid-Ul-Fitr is few days away and Muslim families across the City have started elaborate preparations for the festival. Women who always aspire to look their best during the festival are busy shopping for clothes and matching accessories.

Traditional attire
Stores at Commercial Street and Ibrahim Sab Street have a wide collection of ghagras and salwar suits along with beautiful sarees. For men traditional attires are available in cotton and other materials. Children's wear including western and traditional outfits is also available.

Sale of ingredients that will go into the preparation of delicious food like biryani and sewiyan (sweet vermicelli) on Eid day is also catching up in all the spice stores in local markets like Avenue Road.
