BU council draws up strict rules for colleges
DH News Service,Bangalore:
The Bangalore University Academic Council on Saturday resolved that the concerned Board of Examiner (BoE) chairpersons to check all the cases of low marks awarded in their respective subjects before the results. They can take the help of the concerned paper setters or BoE members for this.

Presently, a reviewer is assigned to value two out of every 12 answer scripts valued by a valuer and check the total of all other answer scripts. “The random selection process may omit those answer scripts with single digit marks” Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof H A Ranganath observed.

Fee for revaluation
It was also decided that a provision should be made for issuing of photocopy of answer scripts for PG examination and also include revaluation and photocopy fee of Rs 750 and the student should enclose this photocopy along with the revaluation application The zones for examination squad work is also expected to be reworked to make it more manageable. The present jurisdiction of Bangalore University is Bangalore City, Bangalore Rural and Kolar district.

All options
The members also pointed out that colleges were misleading the students by mentioning only one of the optional subjects, which is in demand. Therefore, the council decided to send out a circular that the colleges should mention all the combinations available.

The VC observed that there is frequent change of institutions names and this is due to lack of guidelines.
“Therefore, a two member committee has been constituted for framing guidelines for rechristening of names of the institutions. The committee is likely to submit the report within a month on this,” he said.
The council also addressed the problem of institutions abruptly closing down courses when they failed to fill up seats.

The colleges have to now inform the institutions about any such move before the seat matrix is decided.
“ In case, the colleges shut down the course after admitting the students, they would attract penalty and they would not be permitted to restart the course,” warned the VC.

Kannada has been made compulsory for third semester students and there will be an audit exam for 50 marks. In an earlier meeting, the following  subjects were made compulsory for engineering students of  3, 4, 5 and 6 semester: Kannada, Constitution of India, Environmental Science and Technical Report writing. However, the council only discussed the Kannada subject for 3rd semester. Diploma in epilepsy care under the distance education mode was disapproved and will be offered as a regular course.

The council also requested the department chairpersons to cooperate in updating the university website with their latest developments.
