An eight-year-old girl missing from New Delhi Railway Station was traced to Kanpur and reunited with her mother in Delhi on Monday, police said.

The police said Rinki, a resident of Mangolpuri in outer Delhi, had filed the complaint of missing girl at railway station’s police station.

In her complaint, she said that she had came to board Mahabodhi Express from platform number eight and she realised that her daughter was missing from the platform amidst heavy rush all around.

“Immediately, a case was registered and investigation was taken up on priority,” said a senior police officer.

Four police teams conducted a thorough search of the station and the adjoining areas and even scanned closed circuit television footage but to no avail.

The police suspected that the girl might have boarded the train, therefore, the railway police in Aligarh was informed and was requested to find the girl in the train.  The girl could not be traced as the train’s halting time there was very short.

However, the railway police in Kanpur was given all the details of the missing girl along with the probable location of the bogies where she could have been found.

Acting on this information, the police in Kanpur looked for the girl and managed to trace her. “A team from Delhi Police was sent there to bring her back,” added the officer.
