Operation Alamelamma is a quaint detective thriller that bowls you over. The film’s charm lies in its simple narrative and tantalising climax.
Even as it brings to the fore the various tactics that police use to crack a kidnap case, a charming romance blossoms between teacher Ananya and Paramesh alias Purmy,
an auctioneer at a vegetable market with a fetish for branded goods.
Director Suni weaves the plot sans any frills, entertaining viewers till the end. What adds to the film’s attractiveness is the alluring performance of its cast, led by U-Turn fame Shraddha Srinath.
Purmy is held by cops for lifting a bagful of ransom money. He struggles to convince the police that they have got the wrong man. While the police, led by Ashok Kumar, are in hot pursuit of the kidnappers, Purmy’s blooming romance with Ananya provides the necessary relief.
Full of Perry Mason-type sleuthing, interspersed with comedy interludes by Mangalurean cops, Operation Alamelamma makes for a fine family weekend at theatres.
