The division bench of the Gauhati High Court directed the state and Union government to file an affidavit by September 3 on the incident of police firing at Rangajan in Golaghat district on August 19 and 20.
The PIL, filed by Jagadish Bhuyan and Dr Zoii Nath Sarmah, stated that the recent incident of indiscriminate police firing, lathi charge and inhumane torture on the public/protesters amounted to barbaric conduct on the part of the police/security personnel.
