A six-year-old boy sustained severe burns after he suffered electric shocks at Bismillah Nagar, Suddaguntepalya on Saturday evening.

The condition of the victim, Moiz, a resident of Bismillah Nagar is stated to be critical as he sustained over 70% burns.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5 pm when he was playing cricket. He went to the terrace of his neighbour's house as the ball had fallen on the terrace.

The ball had landed in a small pit filled with rainwater. The boy was electrocuted as he laid his hand on the ball to collect it. He raised an alarm and fell down.

The boy's father Masood said, "After hearing my son cry, I rushed to the terrace and saw him up in flames. We shifted him to the hospital."

Siddaraju, a technical staffer with Bescom, said the incident occurred as the house did not have earthing facility. A 10,000-KV high tension wire passes through the lane. A cable is connected to two small poles on the terrace to dry clothes. The cable may have come in contact with the high tension wire, it is said. Siddaraju said the officials would inspect the place and take suitable action.
