Materials worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a major fire that broke out at a factory outlet in Koramangala on Saturday night.

Seven fire tenders rushed to the spot, conducted an operation that lasted more than three hours and doused the fire. Spring materials, furniture, electronic gadgets and other goods stored in the outlet were reduced to ashes, said the police.

Preliminary enquiry suggested electric short circuit as possible cause for mishap. Thick smoke was noticed on the first floor of Stumpp Schuele & Somappa Springs Private Limited, a spring manufacturing unit near St John’s Hospital around 9.30 pm. Soon, smoke engulfed the third and the fourth floors, followed by huge flames. A few residents called up the fire control room.

“We were alerted at 9.40 pm and sent three fire tenders were rushed initially. Soon, four more were rushed, considering the intensity of fire. The fire was doused past midnight,” a fireman said.

Police and the fire personnel had tough time in conducting the operations due to heavy downpour. Due to heavy traffic, the fire tenders reached the spot late. No casualties were reported since the outlet was closed for weekend.

Cause for mishap will be ascertained after the Fire personnel conduct an inquiry and submit a report, added the police.
