The next time you witness a traffic violation, you can shoot a picture and immediately forward the complaint to the Bangalore traffic police from your smartphone. Not just that, you can also get information on your phone about congested roads.

At the meeting of the Traffic Advisory Committee on Wednesday, a number of mobile applications with varied functions were launched. With the help of “BTP Traffic Info App,” one can not only get regular traffic alerts and updates but also play an active role in easing the traffic situation in the City for others by reporting traffic jams or accidents as one witnesses it.

“Other interesting features include the ability to report complaints against any autorickshaw driver and check pending traffic fines,” said Shree Manu, the software developer who designed the app.

Another app is “BTP Public Eye App” by which any person can take a picture of a traffic violation and immediately upload it on the website of BTP. “The app provides a list of violations under which complaints can be registered.

One can also add their own category of violations. We see traffic violations every day but are unable to do anything. With this app, the problem will be solved,” said Akshay Chandrashekhar, the app designer.

Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar hoped that the use of technology will go a long way in solving the traffic problems of Bangalore.
