A 12-year-old girl, Manasa, was bitten by a stray dog while she and her mother were walking on the road near KGE Layout in Sanjaynagar, Sunday.

Bitten mildly on the leg, she was taken to RMV Hospital and given anti-rabies vaccination. Dr Parvez Ahmad Piran, BBMP Joint Director (Animal Husbandry), said the dog had recently been in labour, and may have attacked Manasa to protect her pups.

In the recent incident of a stray dog mauling six-year-old Sanjana in Indiranagar, doctors said the animal, captured by the Palike, died after being beaten up by neighbours who had rushed to save the girl. Although three veterinarians had treated the animal, none of them was able to identify the dog’s injuries.

An autopsy on the animal will be conducted on Monday to see if it was rabid. Sanjana is recuperating at home, and will be visiting doctors at St John’s for additional treatment.
