Colourful sports meet

The Annual Sports Day of Sophia High School was held on October 1. IGP (retd.) Brian Albuquerque, the chief guest, was accompanied by his wife, Sandra Albuquerque.

The Sports Meet had a colourful opening with the Torch Relay and the Grand March Past. Track and field events followed in quick succession. Displays were put up by the students of Standards IV and V and the students of the Sophia Opportunity School.

The item that took everyone's breath away was the final display - in which over 1,000 ‘sunflowers’ lit up the field. The students, who performed to the beat of drums and music on the piano, were coached by Surendra Kumar Spolia, trainer of callisthenics from Kashmir. Mr Spolia works for the Sports Authority of India and is recipient of the President's Medal for his work in callisthenics.

The day concluded with the solemn Beating of the Retreat and the school bade farewell to the chief guest to the tune of "He's a Jolly Good fellow", played by over 100 members of the Sophia School Band. Principal, Sr Sandhya presided over the day’s events.
