Plurality is the most endearing feature of Indian culture. For centuries, people belonging to different religions, sects and social groups have survived harmoniously in the Indian society as a part of the human need to sustain community living. Some of the best forms of Indian art and culture have evolved out of this worldview. Indian music, of all art forms, stands out as a prime example of this harmony, propagating and nurturing the spirit of oneness.
However, of late, divisive forces are trying to create rift among communities in the name of religion. Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike has been keeping a check on such divisive forces that threaten peace and harmony in the State. Vedike is planning to bring ‘celebration of plurality’ into the public realm. And what better way to do it than through music that touches everyone’s heart irrespective of one’s religious inclinations? And for centuries, our great music maestros, composers and saints have drawn inspiration from and contributed to this great source, cutting across religious boundaries. As a continuation of this tradition, Karnataka Komusouharda Vedike has been organising musical evenings to celebrate communal harmony.
To promote communal harmony, Shubha Mudgal, one of the greatest singers of our times, would perform at Ambedkar Bhavan in Bangalore on October 9 at 6.00 p.m. Funds raised will enable the Vedike to sustain, plan and reach to more people across the State. For details contact 94483 71389.
