Before another tragedy strikes…

Every time an air crash takes place or an accident takes place, an Inquiry committee is set up headed by top Officials who would take their own time to collect the data, understand and then possibly may come to some sort of conclusion. This would be an obvious elongated inquiry, and by the time they are done the incident becomes a history.

On the way to making a history, the investigation is on and very much in news but sadly, what we would want to know is never made public. That by itself is a tragedy we have to live with. In the past, the air line sector in India has expanded at a breakneck pace, while the infrastructure to support this growth has not been commensurate with it. That precisely is the reason that most of the airports lack both the physical capability in terms of runways, radars, efficient Air traffic control and Instrument landing systems to cope with the inclement weather conditions. The passengers have been lured with low cost air travel while the air safety has gone for a toss.

With all the drama going around in the wake of the crash at Mangalore, how many of the pilots have openly come out about the inadequacy of facilities and the systems at various airports? Even then, they would prefer to remain anonymous for reasons best known to them.

It is high time that whenever an inquiry is instituted the opinion of the Pilots is taken into consideration and the inquiry commission comes out with remedial measures.

It is also prudent to investigate dispassionattely whether an alternate location for the Mangalore Air port is considered worthwhile from the point of safety to the passengers and air travel, and at the same time provide some relief to the operating pilots to land safely without causing jitters to the passengers.
