SPB, Anup Jalota, Vishwamohan Bhat to enthrall music lovers

A slew of artistes to perform at Palace

Noted Ghazal singer, Anup Jalota, well-known Hindustani musician, Pandit Rajshekar Mansur, renowned playback singer, Dr S P Balasubramanyam, internationally renowned Mohan Veena player, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhat, saxophone player Kadri Gopalnath are some of the important artists who will be performing at the palace premises in Mysore, during ten-day Dasara festival which begins from Oct 8.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Medical Education and District-In-Charge Minister S A Ramdas and Dasara Cultural Sub-Committee Chairman Shivakumar said the cultural programmes will be inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Sreekshethra Dharmasthala on October 8 at 6:30 pm.

Noted singer Dr S P Balasubramanyam will be the chief guest. The inaugural function is followed by Carnatic music by Vidushi Nagamani Srinath from 7 pm to 8 pm.

Later, there will be music programme by Dr SPB between 8 pm and 10 pm. On October 9, Pandit Rajshekar Mansur will render Hindustani music from 6:30 pm to 8 pm followed by dance by Vidyaravishankar from 8 pm to 10 pm.

On October 10, there will be Pancha Veena recital by Dr Sumasudhindra at 6:30 pm and Carnatic vocal recital by Sudha Raghunathan.

On Oct 11, there will be folk music by Janardhan  (Janni) and party at 6:30 pm followed by Ghazal by Pandit Anup Jalota at 8 pm.

On October 12, there will be Hindustani music concert by Pandit Rajatmohan sharma at 6:30 pm and sugam sangeet programme featuring Puttur Narasimha Nayak, R V Navyashree, Mruthyunjaya Doddwad, Ranjini Venkatesh and Muddukrishna at 8 pm.

On October 13, there will be programme by Karnataka Police Band at 6 pm, ‘Jago Bharat’ by Chakravathi Sulibele at 7:30 pm and Hindustani vocal recital by Pandit Hanumannanayak Dore at 9 pm.

On October 14, there will be flute recital by Vidwan M A Chandankumar at 6 pm and Jugal Bandi featuring Kadri Gopinath and Praveen Godkindi at 8 pm.

They said on October 15, there will be Carnatic vocal recital by Venkatraghavan at 6:30 pm and Mohan Veena recital by Pandit Vishwamohan Bhat at 8 pm. On October 16, there will be dance programme by Vaijayanthi Kashi at 6:30 pm and presentation of Sangeet Vidwan award at 7:30 pm. They said there will be a variety of cultural programme at Kala Mandir and Gana Bharathi.

A total of 54 artists will be presenting their respective art at Kalamandira. All the programmes at those venues will start at 5 pm and end at 9 pm. The duration given to each artist varies from 15 minutes to one hour.

Those who had been giving performance continuously for last two to three years are not given chance this time. Besides, they had given representation to all the districts.

A selection committee, headed by vice-chancellor of Music University, Dr Hanumanna Nayak Dore had selected the artists. Local artists are given preference this time. The ‘Shala Dasara’ programmes will be held at Jagan Mohan Palace and women’s activities at Town Hall.
