CBSE seeks global aid to better school education
Close on the heels of launching CBSE-International, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has urged “organisations of international repute” to put in place a system in the country to hone human resources, streamline curriculum and evaluate school education.
The board urged international organisations to send their expressions of interest to set up a centre that would develop capabilities and resources for its schools and teachers, CBSE sources told Deccan Herald.
The stated objective is to provide teachers of international standard to every classroom in the country within the next five years. “Centre for Assessment, Evaluation and Research”, to be set up here under the CBSE, will establish best practices in school-based assessment, entrance examinations, conduct research into policies and programmes that could improve teaching quality and strengthen learning. These policies might include adapting, developing assessments and related resources, defining assessment frameworks, professional learning, teacher evaluation and professional recruitment among others.
The centre will be established as a public-private-partnership between the CBSE and a partner organisation. It will be not-for-profit in character. It will create capacity and resources and bid for projects to sustain itself.
It may also seek financial grants and funds from global agencies. The centre’s department of research and assessment will be responsible for establishing school-based assessment guidelines and for reviewing the medical and engineering entrance examination.
The centre’s department of professional development and leadership will monitor the progress and achievements of educational leaders and teachers. The roles carried out by the department will also possibly include professional recruitment, initial teacher education and induction, professional learning and leadership, the establishment of professional learning communities, teacher evaluation and career development.
Teachers with particular interests and skills must be allowed to learn to an advanced level and be accredited for their knowledge and skills. These teachers should have a leadership role in the schools where they teach, directly influencing and supporting the professional practice of their colleagues.
The department will also make available specialised training and certifying teachers, develop an annual list of short term courses on topics of interest related to best practices in the international education field. It will also bring in international resource professionals with different areas of expertise and provide teachers with advice on professional development pathways.
It will also help schools to identify and recruit good quality teachers and plans to support schools in recruitment in India and outside.
